Xixón de Sidra 2017 awards the winners

The event turned Xixón into the capital city of cider from 5th to 15th October.

LA SIDRA.- Xixón could experience the cider culture for 10 days, in which more than 120,000 bottles and over 10,000 cases were consumed, breaking a new record along this ninth edition.

The awards ceremony took place in Llagar de Castiello yesterday, with the following winners in the different categories:

Best Cider Bar: Río Astur. Finalists: La Fueya de Tomás and La Tonada de Montevil.

Best Dish: Río Astur, with its original cooking style cod. Finalists: Bobes, with its rice and cuttlefish in sauce, and Llagar de Begoña, with its cuttlefish in onion sauce “Llagar style”.

Best Cider: tie between Cabañón Cidermill and Trabanco (Certificate of Origin Cider) Cidermill. Finalists: Cabañón, El Santu, Fran (batch 1), Trabanco and Val de Boides.

The voting was made by means of a blind tasting, with only one pourer and bottle per jury team, made up by the 5 highest scored cidermakers, as well as the 5 cider bars which offered their cider brands. The tasting took place in La Fueya de Tomás cider bar, winner in the last year edition.

Best pourer: Pelayo Rodríguez, El Rincón de Celia cider bar. Finalists: Alejandra Venegas, Parrilla Ramón, and Víctor Borge, La fuera de Tomás.

Best team cider bar-cidermill: La Pámpana and Cabañón Cidermill.

This prize was based on the result of the average scored obtained by the cider bars and twinned cidermill.

Best decorated Cider bar: La Tonada de Montevil. Finalists: Chaflán and La Casona de Jovellanos.

Tastiest Cider: Acebal Cidermill.

Such a big amount of cider glasses! (highest number of cider glasses served): Parrilla Antonio I, 40,536 cider glasses. Finalists: La Tonada de Montevil, 36,792 cider glasses and El Saúco, 32,544 cider glasses.

Such a long journey! (highest number of cider cases sold): Orizón Cidermill, 563 cases. Finalists: Contrueces Cidermill, 511 cases, and Foncueva Cidermill, 452 cases.
