The best fabada out of Asturies, Casa Hortensia in Madrid

Carús Casa de Comidas also in the state capital, La Taska Sidrería in Valencia, Casa Zapico in Toledo and Los Platos de Soto in Mallorca, are also finalists of the contest

LA SIDRA.- The ninth edition of the contest “The Best Fabada in the World” that you already know the first finalists: Casa Hortensia, Madrid and Carús House of Meals in Madrid, La Taska Sidrería de Valencia, Casa Zapico in Bargas, Toledo, and Los Platos de Soto in Mallorca. In addition, the jury has made a special mention for the quality of its compango to the fabada of the Madrid Taberna in Torres de la Alameda. There are still a few more weeks to know who will be the twenty Asturian finalists who will join the fight for the title next March 26 in Villaviciosa.

The contest, organized by the aforementioned City Council and the gastronomic event company Gustatio, is, they say, the most demanding that exist to win the fabadas can be tasted up to three times by an expert jury, in a first phase anonymously and secretly. The members of the jury of the national semifinal have been Alfredo Humbría of the La Máquina Group; Carlos Maribona, food critic of the newspaper ABC; David Fernández-Prada, Director of Gustatio; Emiliano García Domené, Mountain House; Ismael Fernández from the Amigos de les Fabes Brotherhood; Vanesa Caso of El Ñeru, the chef and gastronomic photographer Sacha Ormaechea.

The jury highlighted that this edition has been the best quality of all editions of the contest. In the national semifinal there has been representation of Murcia, Madrid, Alicante, A Coruña, Toledo, Granada, Cuenca, Malaga, Valencia, Barcelona and Mallorca.

Juan Rubio, mayor of the Rural Ministry of Villaviciosa Town Hall, presented the trophies accompanied by members of the Friends of Fabes Brotherhood and the Vice President of the Asturian Center of Madrid, David De Santiago. The contest The Best Fabada of the World has the sponsorship and collaboration of Bodegas Monasterio de Corias, Embutidos Naveda, La Tierrina Vaqueira and Pomarina, Sidra Brut de El Gaitero. The winners in previous editions have always been Asturian restaurants: Casa de Comidas Chema (2011-2017), El Moreno (2012), El Llar de Viri (2013), Sidriría Bedriñana (2014), Los Pomares (2015), Vista Alegre ( 2016) and Gaucho Fierro (2018).
