Looking for the ‘Best Fabada’ outside of Asturies

Sixteen establishments of the Spanish State will compete in the semifinal of the contest The Best Fabada of the World on Monday, January 14 at the Asturian Home in Madrid

LA SIDRA.- The ninth edition of the contest “The Best Fabada in the World” has hung the complete poster with a total of 100 restaurants, 25 of them from outside Asturies, with which the contest is exceeded every year. The professional jury has visited all the restaurants one by one, 16 of them will compete, next Monday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the Asturian Center of Madrid, to try to get one of the 5 places reserved for restaurants outside of Asturies in the grand final of the contest, which will be held on March 26 in Villaviciosa. One of the sponsors is the Pomarina cider from El Gaitero.

In the semifinal of Madrid there is representation of Murcia, Madrid, Alicante, Coruña, Toledo, Granada, Cuenca, Malaga, Valencia, Barcelona and Mallorca. The restaurants that go to the semifinals are: Casa Menéndez (Águilas, Murcia), Asgaya (Madrid), Ca Aida (Benidorm), Carús Casa de Comidas (Madrid), Casa Hortensia (Madrid), Casa Matilde (Coruña), Casa Zapico (Bargas, Toledo), Café de la Ópera (Madrid), El Chigrín (Granada), Ordás Brothers (Madrid), La Figal (Cuenca), La Ménsula (Málaga), La Taberna (Torres de la Alameda, Madrid), La Taska Sidrería (Valencia), Llaber (Barcelona) and Los Platos del Soto (Mallorca).

The contest, organized by the City Council of Villaviciosa and the Gustatio gastronomic events company, is one of the most demanding because they can be tasted up to three times by an expert jury in an anonymous and secret way. The members of the jury of the national semi-final are: Alfredo Umbría, Carlos Maribona, David Fernández, Emiliano García Domenech, Ismael Fernández, Juan Luis Cano and Sacha Ormaechea. The contest The Best Fabada in the World has the sponsorship and collaboration of Bodegas Monasterio de Corias, Embutidos Naveda, La Tierrina Vaqueira and Pomarina, the cider Brut de El Gaitero.

The winners in previous editions have always been Asturian restaurants: Casa de Comidas Chema (2011-2017), El Moreno (2012), El Llar de Viri (2013), Sidriría Bedriñana (2014), Los Pomares (2015), Vista Alegre ( 2016), Gaucho Fierro (2018).
