Future strategies for the cider sector

The aim is to stabilize production and make the sector professional.

LA SIDRA.- The “Apple Round Table”, formed by producers, DOP (Certificate of Origin) managers, SERIDA (Regional Research and Development Service) experts and the Rural Environment Council, gathered yesterday to plan strategies for next decade.

After the apple excess registered last year, one of the main issues dealt with was to obtain the maximum benefit from the harvests.

The idea is focused on the decission of supporting the apple orchads development or the management of the ones already existent.

Other issues covered were the strengthening of premium beverages, like brut cider, the exclusive usage of Asturian apple for cidermaking and the problem of plagues like the rat-mole.

The table will gathered again in May.
