The Tasting of the First Cider 12th edition of Gascona was a real cidery show in which the winners were Trabanco (Official tasting) and La Nozala (Popular tasting).
As it co uld not be otherwise, LA SIDRA was also present with its own stand in the Tasting of the First Cider of Gascona: the first big appointment of the cider-related contests season.
For twelve years the cidermakers with presence in the Cider Boulevard (fourteen this year) are participating in this event, which recognizes the best cider in a double way: by popular voting and by official tasting, in which professional cider tasters will evaluate the ciders presented to contest and select one with the best features according to scent, presence in the glass and flavour.
This year the popular voting gave La Nozala as winner, being the first time that this cider label gets the recognition in Gascona, and Trabanco won the official tasting, being the unique cider press that get the recognition as the best cider in every edition of the Gascona tasting, that has been held since the year 2000.In fact, in the last two years Trabanco get both prizes by winning the first place both in the official tasting and the popular voting. “The ciders presented this year showed a quite acceptable level.
However it is true that the ones positioned in the first places showed features of “espalme” (sparkling at the pouring), scent and flavour very outstanding”, explains Maximino Villarica, President of the Jury of the Gascona Tasting. “The Gascona Tasting is the first great cider test, and this year was even more important to present a product outstanding in quality, now that the development of the season and the meteorological conditions are delaying more than usual the maturing of the cider. We will have cider of a great quality this season, but we will have to wait some weeks for some of them to reach its proper point of maturation”, explains Samuel Trabanco.
